FBDataGuard is a new IBSurgeon proactive protection tool. It protects Firebird and InterBase databases from corruptions, performs advanced recovery and health monitoring.
There are 3 main reasons to use FBDataGuard/IBDataGuard:
Low-level protection for heavy corruptions
The most heavy database corruptions are caused by hardware failures: HDD, RAM, flash-drives, etc. To minimize losses and save data after such serious corruptions FBDataGuard saves all low-level metadata from protected database to special repository and keep track of its changes. In case of corruption FBDataGuard repository helps to save maximum data. Due to this approach FBDataGuard can extract data from databases which cannot be fixed by FBFirstAID.
Proactive anti-corruption monitoring
You know that it's better to prevent corruption instead of fixing it with FBDataGuard or FBFirstAID. FBDataGuard watches for the most dangerous corruptions reasons, such as lack of disk space, early-bird errors in log and crashes of fbserver.exe process, and warns administrator or user about upcoming problems by email.
FBDataGuard also cares about backups and restores to perform them in safe and easy way.
Database health monitoring
FBDataGuard includes RAM and CPU monitoring module, transaction monitoring module (based on IBTM) and analysis module (based on IBAnalyst) which perform continuous monitoring of database health and warn administrator about actual and possible performance problems. Indices auto-refreshing takes care about database performance.

FBDataGuard is designed for using in production environment to make business-critical Firebird-based application more reliable, stable and healthy. FBDataGuard 1.0 works under Windows, and coming soon 1.5 will work under Linux too.
